The Church of Agios Spyridonas in the castle of Agios Georgios in Kefalonia

The church of Agios Spyridonas and its bell tower, are located in the area of Saint George castle in Kefalonia. They are both important paradigms of the prevailing architecture during the Venetian period on the island. After the disastrous earthquakes of 1953, the church was abandoned due to the severe damages that it suffered. As a result, the only two remaining walls of the church are exposed to the weather and the frequent earthquakes that rock the island. For the restoration study of the compound, the building and its surroundings were surveyed and documented using state-of-art photogrammetric techniques. The building pathology was analyzed leading to the proposition of remedial measures for its structural elements. The goal of the restoration study was to derive a solution for reusing the building as a church.
